Housetraining Alternatives

Pups need to learn when and where to relive themselves. This is a normal puppy stage, one that most pups get through quickly and with little problem.

There are different approaches to housetraining. Some people try to train their dogs to go to the bathroom indoors on newspaper or absorbent pads while young, then teach them to go outside later in life.

One innovative approach involves teaching your indoor dog to use dog litter, such as Purina® secondnature® brand Dog Litter. Using litter, a puppy or dog up to 35 pounds can easily be trained to eliminate in one spot indoors, reducing the need for trips outside in the middle of the night or in bad weather. It also is a good option for apartment dwellers. Training information is available with the purchase of secondnature®. Visit www.doglitter.com for more information.

Whether you choose indoor or outdoor housetraining, you should move to establish an elimination routine as soon as possible. The longer you let the behavior persist, the harder it will be to change.
